Rich history of

THE HIDEAWAY

Howdy and welcome to 3 Step Hideaway, our little piece of the “Wild West” where respect and responsibility are a way of life.

Three weathered cabins and a root cellar comprised the only visible remains of the original homestead established back in the late 1890’s. Refurbishing of the old homestead and the addition of other buildings began in 2002, making 3 Step Hideaway the treasure it is today.

Whether you are hiking, riding a horse, mountain biking, dirt bike riding, 4-wheeling or on ATVs, you’re sure to enjoy exploring the wide-open spaces found in Lisbon Valley and beyond. Surrounded on three sides by pristine BLM land and only two miles from the Colorado State Line, you’ll find off-road trails in abundance right from our front door.

For those traveling by automobile, memories await you nearby at Utah’s fabulous Canyonlands, Natural Bridges or the Dinosaur Museum. Sandstone formations abound in Monument Valley and Arches, plus there are several other national monuments within reasonable driving distance. Tall mountain peaks, forests and mountain meadows can be found at Manti La Sal National Forest. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area brings together the best of majestic red rock canyons and water fun at Lake Powell. There is plenty to see and do in San Juan County, or you may choose to do nothing at all and simply bask in the beauty overlooking the Lisbon Valley.

Resources are

PRECIOUS & LIMITED

Please remember that 3 Step Hideaway is located in a frontier area.

There is a one-mile dirt road leading up to the Hideaway, so travel can become somewhat challenging during rainy season. Water is precious and our electricity is produced by a solar power system, which is sufficient for our requirements, but not limitless, so please bear this in mind.

While it is a blessing to have these luxuries in such a remote place, conservation is a priority. We don’t want to impose regulations, so it is up to each of our guests to respect and participate in our efforts to conserve this fragile environment.

Howdy!

Let us share a bit about our history and how the journey has lead us to the beautiful Lisbon Valley and 3 Step Hideaway. Scott and Julie were married in 1980 in Tucson, Arizona; have two beautiful daughters, a couple of great son-in-laws, and a pair of adorable grandchildren.

The open roads began calling to us, and in 2005 we picked up a 10 year old Goldwing motorcycle with a California Sidecar trike conversion kit. Our first excursion was ten days touring the Colorado Rockies and we were immediately hooked! Over the years, we have had the pleasure of touring much of the western United States and Canada on our tricycle.

In 2006 Scott aka. “DingWeed”, began dirt-bike riding, traveling the Continental Divide of the United States from Mexico to Canada and back again with several good friends from Tucson. Since then, he has meandered from Baja, Mexico to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska with “Big Dog” and other good friends from around the country on his trusty 2009 Yamaha WR250R, riding over 52,000 miles on that bike alone!

With the down-turn in the nation’s economy and after 27 years of successfully owning and operating a masonry construction company, we decided it was time for a change and closed our masonry business in search of our next adventure. Through an unusual twist of events, we have begun a fresh chapter in our lives in southeastern Utah as your hosts of 3 Step Hideaway.

Our “driveway” is located right on the Trans-America Trail, and we are surrounded by the beautiful landscape and rich history of the Colorado Plateau. During our off-seasons, we look forward to exploring the many sights and National Monuments right here in our new backyard.

Our love of cross-country motorcycle riding brought us to this area and it is our honor to offer you lodging and friendship, surrounded by wide-open spaces, epic riding and star-filled nights. Come visit 3 Step Hideaway and add a trip back to the “Old West” to your own personal journal of adventures!
